3. Explore - Robot Body Design

It’s time to create your very own robot! Think about some of the robots we’ve seen and talked about and what you want your robot’s job to be. You’ll need to understand what you want your robot to do, because you only have limited resources.

Plan

Brainstorm some ideas for what your robot’s purpose or problem to solve is, then fill out the worksheet below.

Build

Facilitator Note
  • Explain the materials that you have to learners and walk them through how the materials can be used or combined together.
  • Create space for their creative or non-traditional uses of these materials (as long as they are safe).
  • Have learners build their robot body with the available materials.

Next, start working on your physical build, try to keep it consistent with your design. Use any materials you have available to you and consider designing the following:

  1. Robot body shell or core parts
  2. Robot body part connectors
  3. Robot mobility systems
